Irving was a place that one stopped into for many years as one travelled the province. Many for its reliable home made turkey or pea soup and perhaps a good old hot turkey sandwich. so many places have opened over the years and Irving has changed ownership..i had put it aside. We decided to go to the old Irving Big Stop in Mount Pearl for the old Managers Breakfast Special and it was as good as ever. It is not fine dining by any stretch but a diner on a Saturday morning with some old friends...good grub and a coffee did just fine.
As an expat Newfoundlander home for a visit I needed a fix of Jiggs dinner. Was told by many that Donovan's Irving in mt pearl was the place to go. We were not disappointed. Nan's pea soup and dumpling followed by Jiggs dinner with turkey. Blueberry pudding with traditional brown sugar and butter sauce. Ohhhhh myyyyy gawdddddd!!!!!! It brought tears to my eyes with memories of my childhood. Not sure my adulthood needed the salt cholesterol and calories but it was literally to die for!!
When I want a home cooked Sunday dinner, & I don't have time to prepare it... I sometimes come here... I just wish they would serve an old fassioned Molasses Rasion Pudding with it, that would really top it off for me :) I am not a fan of peas pudding or peas soup.... but old fasioned rasion pudding is the bomb! YUMMY Maybe they will include it in the menu now :) hehe ... PLEASE LIKE FOR OLD FASIONED RASION PUDDING INCLUDED ON THE MENU :D THIS WOULD BRING ME BACK every sunday hehe
This is a great spot to cure the liquor blues. They have HUGE portions of excellent diner style food, especially the all day breakfast. The pancakes are fresh and fluffy, and there's something here for everyone. Great spot to bring the whole family for a quick lunch or dinner too.

Great food. Hearty servings. For a quick stop on the road this place can't be beat. Fast service and you'll be plenty full to hit the road. Love the liver and onions meal but all food items are great. Try pea soup for your starter. You won't be disappointed
Good home cooked style meals. Love their Jiggs dinner , a Nl classic . They also have great breads soups and deserts. Love their lemon pie . Good food and reasonably priced including a good kids menu .
When a truck stop, the helpings were huge and the food was excelent. The food is still good but helpings are not so big now. Food is still quite good.
Fantastic breakfast with plenty of coffee refills. Great service and food cooked perfectly. Definitely will go back again.

Food Good, service Good, a little Hectic for Business chatter, but i guess successful spots have busier restaurants.
My friends and I meet here on a regular basis for breakfast because the food is always served hot and fast.
