On the bustling corner of Harbor Boulevard and Commonwealth Avenue, there is JP23 BBQ Smokehouse. Jacob Poozhikala is the brainchild behind this venture. JP is Jacob's initials and his 23 friends from college are behind the puzzling name. Since college, BBQ and sports have been in Jacob's life, from its roots in Canada to move to SoCal. Like any hard BBQer, you need to call your smoker for luck. In JP23, Elmer is his name. Luck was on his side when they celebrated their first anniversary on St. Patrick’s Day 2014 and commissioned General Manager Adrienne Bennett to make the front of the house with their proven drive, happy cartridges and successful restaurants.

Went for all-you-can-eat Sunday BBQ Brunch, good value overall. Place has like 40 TV'S showing all the NFL games 1 big screen/projection tv. Volume all the way up on 2 or 3 of them, makes conversation almost impossible on the bar side of the room. Nearly no nearby streetside parking, have to park in public parking structure 1 block south and walk over. Very good brisket and ribs, nice beer selection, can add on bottomless mimosa's for $10 extra. Mixed crowd, college age and families. A little raucous and rowdy during games.

The food presentation was not great. The food was good. Presenting themselves as a bbq spot for brunch was odd you didn't smell bbq walking in. The presentation and portion of the desserts were very poor. They sliced their cake and cheesecake so thin it literally was a sliver and they put it on a baking pan with wax sheet . The churros were delicious. The champagne was ok it needed to be chilled. Our server was very attentive .

We picked the wrong night to go. JP23 was celebrating their 3rd year anniversary with a very loud live band. The owner provided a full buffet of food but we found the food not that appealing. The ribs were cooked perfect but lacked flavor; flavor/sauces was provided in plastic bottles to drizzle over the ribs.
