We had such a fantastic dinner that we decided to return a week later when we had a guest to entertain. The blackboard menu had been replaced by regular and specials menus on the tables. Both menus were not too extensive, but offered plenty of choices. All the dishes were freshly prepared and cooked perfectly. The main courses of sole and sea bass were excellent during our first visit, and the duck and Guinea fowl were equally delicious the second time around. The starters and desserts were also very tasty. The staff greeted us warmly and provided good, although not flawless, service. My family and I always come here. It’s a quaint little cottage that provides for a beautiful eating experience. Kate and Tim are great and the staff are always friendly and smiley. The food is absolutely amazing. The scallops and black pudding is always a must for me, beautifully cooked by the chefs. The steak is always perfectly cooked with a lovely peppercorn sauce and stilton mushroom on top. If you love sauce, I’d ask for an extra bit on the side! All in all, it’s a great place to visit, it is relatively pricey, a birthday or special occasion would be worth it! I would recommend to anyone.

I'd heard good things about this place, particularly the food and unfortunately that was the main element and it let our experience down. The atmosphere was lovely, the staff very professional. We'd all ordered the same meals from the Specials menu. The chicken liver parfait was sloppy for starters and the hake with prawns in a lobster bisque for the main course was poor. The prawns and some of our hake was over cooked and the bisque just tasted of tomato. The vegetables that accompanied the meal were not very exciting and miniscule in amount.

Excellent service throughout the meal but the restaurant was not very busy. Great starters but strange problem when we asked for more bread (will take ten minutes to defrost?? . One main course was excellent, the other suffered from a chef who has not yet learned most British people have cut back on salt usage! Wine good but rather over priced.
