Tonight, a drizzly damp NYC December night, I craved soup dumplings and dim sum, so I headed down the street to Bao, where I've had good food and service twice in the few months since I moved into the neighborhood. What an awful experience! Asking the first server to explain the difference in 2 sakes, she perfectly nicely said she didn't know and sent a 2d, who gave a good explanation and I chose one. She left the bottle, no glass. I asked a question about a new dish, she didn't know and said she'd ask a colleague. No one came back until she, the only non Asian of the staff, came back 5 later, after polishing tables in the half empty restaurant, and asked if I was ready to order. I pointed o...

Ordered the kung fu xiao long bao, eggplant and green beans, and braised pork belly over rice. 1) the kung fu XLB tastes like they’re from a packaged source. Lacking in any flavors, overcooked, and extremely sad looking. 2) the eggplants and green beans was the only redeeming dish. Though don’t expect much. The portions here are wildly small and insanely overpriced for what you get. 3) this was the most disappointing dish ever for the price. A small bowl of rice with BARELY any meat or sauce. So underwhelming. Service was also disappointing considering it wasn’t busy at all. I would avoid this place and eat somewhere else. As much as I want to support them, this was probably one of the worst...

I visited again today, January 11th, and everything was delicious. The dim sum was really great, the service was friendly, and the prices were very reasonable. I just finished lunch, and the dumplings were fantastic, especially with the chili oil! Also, I wanted to add an update: when I had lunch on August 19th, it was even better than I remembered!

All of the food is super delicious. And the lunch specials are excellent a really large portion for a very low price! Also, the payment and ordering system is very innovative. There is a QR code so that each member of the party can order individually and pay through their phone, if they'd like. It makes going with a group hassle free. Book a table now

The food was fairly average, and it was evident that the restaurant was lacking sufficient staff. However, the atmosphere was fantastic. The standout dish was definitely the sizzling pepper chicken!

I have an allergy to sesame seeds and they won’t pick up their phone so I can tell them. Please do not order delivery if you have any allergies. Impossible to get in touch with the restaurant.

The experience was decent, but the dim sum is on the expensive side, and one of the dishes was wrongly labeled as vegetarian.
