Whether regional or Mediterranean with us, everything is homemade and every creation is prepared with fresh, seasonal and healthy ingredients.” So the restaurant comes on the hotel's homepage, but later more. On the return journey from the Easter holiday in Italy – a pity that you cannot write any reviews here, in the early evening at the level of Freiburg on the highway and about 50 km of traffic jam in front of us, we spontaneously decided not to go further, but nice to stay and eat well. Badenweiler was quite close to the highway and the cell phone showed a variety of hotels. Since we wanted to enjoy something nice, we called the best listed hotel, the 5 star Schlosshotel Römerbad; the displayed room price seemed affordable to us for the performance of a 5 star hotel and also our question about a wellness area was affirmed. The hotel turned out to be an old house with a lock-like character, high spaces, all a little antique, the red carpet belongs to it. In the back area we could see the restaurant, with beautiful panoramic views over the Rhine Valley. At the friendly reception chef we asked for the opening time of the restaurant – up to 22 – what came to us and covered our room. This was tidy and made a nice impression, the greater was the disappointment when we saw the adjacent bathroom: there was probably nothing happening here since the 50s, the cleanliness regarding also for a long time. All right, then to the swimming pool and sauna; also here followed the disappointment on the foot, both of them were muffy and small, a spa hotel with 5 stars, who actually forgives them? – far from appropriate. Beloved the hope for a nice dinner, see my introduction, after all the restaurant has also hung out some awards, 3 hoods!!!. We were kindly received and led to a table. The restaurant makes an honorable impression, the tables were all covered, white table linen and napkins. On the tables a vase with scars, most of them had the best time behind them and cried out. The restaurant was quite sparsely visited, only 5 tables occupied, well it was almost 9:00. The card was handed over to us and we were amazed to find only 2 dishes in connection with the daily menu. On request we were informed that there were only two menus from which we could choose. I wanted to go again, but in view of the advanced time and since the ordered bottle of water and bread was also brought, my wife wanted to stay so that we chose the main dishes from the menu to € 42, which were catfish and rabbit lobe, and we ordered half a liter of open white wine. It followed a greeting from the kitchen, a terrine with black bread and salmon, which tasted us both very well. So disappointing the main course that followed after a very short time, someone probably wanted to finish. So this also looked like a rectangular piece of fish, panned, dry and fade, seemed to have finished “located”, at least it could not have been prepared during this time. The fish sticks are more tasty by a well-known frozen food specialist. The tasty rabbit lobe had to have been prepared, of course, and came with too little sauce, as supplements some pampy band noodles and some vegetables. Both dishes were very small, when the main food was inadequate here the starter was probably included for the half board guests. The two dishes then cost €22.50 each, the half litre of wine hit with €20!! to beech, the bottle of mineral water with €6. It was noticeable that both fish and rabbit lobes came with the same sauce, either a ready sauce or a fish sauce made from rabbit fond, or both. After this detoxification we dispensed with the dessert, the espresso ordered were ok, but at € 2.90 you can expect an addition. What is fair to say is that the breakfast buffet was really good the next day. Conclusion: a dinner, which would be 2 stars in the good-broker restaurant around the corner, but one of the top restaurants, which was erected by critics, is absolutely unworthy, and has not earned a star. It may be that you only have menus on the menu, then an information would have been mandatory. Then it must also be said that in these menus you can expect a peak performance at these prices and the self-imposed claim. I can't forgive zero stars. Also the ambience, blurred flowers, leads to a deduction, while the service was friendly, but could not make up a desolate kitchen performance. An absolute disappointment also in connection with the hotel accommodation and by no means recommend, but to advise; there are also other hotels and restaurants in Badenweiler. I learned to leave me more time at the hotel's choice in the near future. I decided to evaluate the overall impression here (not the individual areas according to the scheme of a kitchen trip. This review background is solved by a restaurant classification. This can apply to both a star place and a pizzeria or a snack. I think that's fair, every restaurant category will be fair, and I'd find it nice if other friends would join it and get this through for the overall impression here.
