This place is a little gem! What a trip back to my childhood. I love the care they have taken to decorate this place, such as using VHS tapes as wallpaper and the including of grrat board games like guess who and uno! The arcade games are a sure way to keep clientele happy also! We ordered their classic cheeseburger and it was delicious, meat cooked to perfection and wasn't sloppy. Fresh veg and birger bun topped it off to make this a wonderful experience. Will definitley reccomend to everyone. Staff were friendly and it's also a great place to bring kids!
1989 Kitchen & Arcade
22-24 King Street, Newtown, Sydney, 2042, Australia Reservation"As the closest cafe to my place, I've eaten here a few times, not to mention having a (rather terrible) go at some of the old skool video games. Food and service are both great, as are the (mostly) 80's video movie covers all over the walls. Lots of board games to entertain too. Great coffee!"

The burger was mammoth! Everything in the burger was a delight to eat, from the mashed avo to the melting cheese! Tried this place out on a $12 groupon voucher that had me a chicken and bacon burger with a banana milkshake. It also doubles as an mini arcade where you can play games for a buck. Even their bathroom was colourful. Good location and friendly service. Come again? Absolutely!

Loved it, so nostalgic with the art, movies and memorabilia on the walls. The food was excellent, fish & chips and the 1989 cheese burger were fantastic. I'm being precious but think the staff could present themselves but more professional, taking people to try the place out, look your best or respectable. All in all love it, especially the Street Fighter 2!

This gem of a location is a complete nerdgasm with incredible coffee and even better food! Their service is top notch and they always have a smile on. If you have a free morning, come in with gold coins, they have so many arcade games to play while waiting on your food.I can't wait for the bar to be open to give their dinner menu a try!
I went there for the first time with a friend who recommended it.The atmosphere is so retro 1989, friendly staff and delicious food, on top you can play aracde games.Bought back many memories as a kid who used to play arcade games in the 80's.I would recommend this place for anyone who is seeking something a little different :) Book a table now
Stopped in for an impromptu quick solo breakfast on the way to a meeting and was pleasantly surprised with the experience. The food was delicious, generous and well priced. The coffee was hot and brewed to perfection! And the service was friendly.I will be stopping in again and highly recommend if you are in the Newtown area.
