The atmosphere is fantastic (especially on the weekend) with professional service that's attentive but not overbearing. The food is genuinely outstanding. Crispy hake, padron peppers and the anchovies are...personal favourites. Yes, it's not an all you can eat carvery but if you're savvy enough to order an extra portion of potatas bravas or some of the lovely bread with dipping oil then you won't come away hungry. Been to bar many times, disappointed with the food quality and standards on this visit. Busy on a Wednesday evening- great to see that business is booking. Ordered tapas and desert and only one dish was good-Very disappointing. Padrons- underdone and padrons: not worth the money. Jakon croquettes tasted of cured pork rather than subtle taste, also could be crisper on outside. Battered hake was excellent and has always been. Squid was very fishy and for get little squids I.e mouth fills. Patatatas brava was ok. I’ve reviewed a few times over the years as I’ve always been so delighted to have this restaurant on my doorstep. Tonight I visited them again and as much as I love the staff and their attentiveness the food was just okay but the...atmosphere horrendous. The noise is off the scale, partly due to the lack of sound absorbing textiles and partly due to the bar nature of the place. Too many very very loud drinkers made conversation impossible over supper and we are early in full knowledge that this place can get a bit rowdy later in the evening. Sadly this will be my last visit. Decent food, good wine list, excellent staff, but expensive and very very loud.
We visited Bar just before Xmas and had a lovely Sunday Lunch so decided to rebook. Unfortunately when we turned up at we were told that Sunday lunch was no longer available. I did comment to the waiter that we were disappointed as...that is what we had booked for. The waiter told us that they ring bookings to confirm if they will be having Sunday lunch or tapas so that they know how much to produce which is a good idea however, nobody had rung us to explain this. We ordered from the Tapas menu instead which was lovely but it was disappointing watching all the Sunday roasts being delivered to adjoining tables.

We’ve visited Bar Penarth for a drink. All the cocktails from their signature menu we have tried were exceptional! Can’t wait to visit and taste some of their food! All of the staff were very friendly and polite, service was very quick. The bartender...who recommended us the Rhubarb&Custard Pornstar Martini (DELICIOUS) stood out in compare to others. Very pleased with our visit and looking forward for more to come!
We went for a well overdue evening meal with the girls and what a lovely evening we had! Our table was great, right at the front in the window. I love everything about this place. Food and drink is delicious, service is super friendly and efficient, it has a great atmosphere and with the kitchen being open, it smells amazing. Definitely worth a visit
We had the most fabulous lunch. The food was fresh and delicious. The staff are friendly and super well-informed on menu choices for Gluten-free diners. Great place to eat, you won't be disappointed!
