We noticed the restaurant on the way up but didn't stop. Big mistake. We stopped at the port de plaisance in Marseilles-lès-Aubigny only to find that THERE IS NOTHING THERE!!! Fortunately one of our crew had the wit to ask the pharmacist for a recommendation. She knew the owner/chef of the restaurant, called him up and he dropped everything to drive 8 km to pick us ("nothing there" includes taxis)!!! Then he and his wife finished preparing an excellent meal for the 5 of us, plus 3 or 4 other tables in this charming restaurant on the canal. To top it off, he drove us back to the boat after we'd finished dessert.

There is a dearth of eating places along the Canal Lateral a Loire where we were canal boating. Another boater mentioned this place while we were planning to try a different village. Very greatful he did as we wouldn't have stopped there. It is a simple small bistro with country style charm and very decent food. Menu mostly limited to steak frites type food, pork ribs and the like but generous, well prepared, and pleasantly served. Ice cream sundaes to die for. Nothing this good nearby. Do it.

Our canal boat company recommended this restaurant and we liked it so much we visited it twice! A charming little restaurant in a quiet but pretty town. One highlight was the flock of geese which live on the bank of the canal right next to the restaurant. A good range of foods from the menu of the day to an American hamburger and local produce platters. The staff were very helpful and worked hard to overcome the language barrier. They also had menus in English for visitors. Worth a visit.

Driving along the canal route and looking at the lock and a boat going through and saw this restaurant across the bridge. Big family get-together in half the restaurant. we got a window seat and had a very good hamburger, fries and salad (which we shared) and a glass of local wine.
