Called the restaurant and asked for a table for one. Hosts had no problem accommodating me and I even ended up with a wonderful seat on the terrace with a view of the lake. The restaurant is cozy and intimate. Loved the decorations and overall ambiance. Great space for a solo traveler, a large group, or a family (there were a few babies in the restaurant that evening! . The owners and staff speak very little English. But they speak Italian, French, German, Swiss German, and Spanish! I found my waitress incredibly helpful she worked with me and was friendly and cheerful. The menu is fairly priced, especially for the portion sizes (huge! . You can also order half sized portions on some dishes....

Tripadvisor's advice proved more than right. A typical ticinese atmosphere with outstanding food. We were pampered with excellent food in the next door five star hotel restaurant of the albergo Orselina and wanted something more local. This was the right choice: I had a tasty sepia dish of highest standard as a starter, my companion chose a pasta dish with tomato vodka sauce, also outstanding. The main course was less extraordinary, a good portion of roastbeef with an excellent tartar sauce and a typical beef stew with port sauce and a remarkable polenta. The portions were so genereous that we could not eat a dessert, unfortunately, because the home-made caramel flan looked so tempting. A go...

We live in the area and have walked by this establishment many times on our way to local sites with out of town guests. Decided to finally give it a try. Lovely rustic interior with homey atmosphere. Staff are warm, friendly and care about your satisfaction. In the fall, they offer a venison menu hearty, stick to your ribs fare including deer, wild boar and chamois. These lean meats were tasty, juicy and served with plenty of sauce, sides of spaetzli and seasonal vegetables. The wine list was overly pricey, surprising for Ticino where we have decent locals. As far as grotto eateries are concerned, this is one of the best to date the reason why we rated it 'Very Good '.
