Had heard many good things about this eatery, in the heart of La Rioja's wine country, all of them understatements. The place was fully booked (on a nondescript Friday, so book ahead), but going for an early lunch by Spanish standards (1.30 pm) they kindly squeezed me in for a quick meal. Had a quick look at their menu and was impressed by the creativity of many of the proposed dishes, above expectations, but I wanted to have their famous chuletón (steak). I ordered a tomato salad to go with it. Well, let me say that didn't disappoint. My wife and I had lunch in this classically elegant restaurant in Fuenmayor. We had visited The Casa Vivanco Winery and Museum Briones in the morning and after a very short and entertaining drive, we arrived at this charming, gourmet, well managed and great service, impeccable restaurant. The food was just outstanding; the wine by the glass excellent and the price more than acceptable. If you decide to wine tour Rioja try to arrange lunch or dinner in this restaurant; you'll thank me for. The quality and flavor of the food rival any restaurant in any major city in Spain.
Alameda restaurant was the second time we went. the first was great, the last 1 absolute disappointment. Anyway the waiters always have a lot of hurry and the price is high for their geographic situation. independently you go, you know where you go in, you pay and it is. the problem is when the chuleton that puts you is at 49 euros the kg and 60% of what they present on the plate is yellow fat. the waiter also advises to eat some fat and another small magician. Unbelievable!
Our Spanish friends brought us to this smallish, unremarkable town where we had one of the most delicious meals we have had anywhere at any time and we get around quite a bit. The wines and the meat were world class, the appetizers and desserts equally inventive and utterly delicious.
