I visited this sandwich shop for the first time and was impressed. The price of $13.50 for a small sandwich, chips, and a drink is reasonable. However, I found the sandwiches to be a bit lacking in flavor; they were somewhat one-dimensional. I often think about the balance of salt, fat, acid, and heat in food, and I felt that these sandwiches could use more of that. The subs came out hot from the oven, which was great! However, the steak sub could have benefitted from additional cheese and marinara sauce. On the other hand, the chicken pesto was quite good, and the bread they use is outstanding!
My favorite part of the meal was the bread—wow, it was incredibly delicious! I was so impressed that I reached out to the staff after my visit to inquire about it. I found out they bake it fresh right on-site, and you can really taste the difference. Everything was outstanding, and the fresh, generously portioned ingredients made for a wonderful lunch experience. If I lived in Boston, I would definitely go there every week! This restaurant is an absolute must-try!
I literally just ordered and my order is WRONG.I asked for a small ham and cheese with everything on it including hots. Why did they give me a ham sub with hots!!!??? No cheese no nothing!!!! So disappointed. I’m at work and don’t have time to go back. Very upset!!!!
The food is excellent, and I have no complaints. However, I find that the chicken salad at the State Street location is superior to that at the Essex Street location. I can't quite identify what sets it apart, but State definitely has the recipe just right.

Decent food but rude staff. Homegirl with the triple chin taking orders has a really bad attitude. She rushed me and got mad when she messed up my order. Same horrible attitude every time I get takeout there. Very unprofessional.
They gave me a café sandwich when I ordered Buffalo chicken. The manager standing next to the clerk even asked me a few questions to clarify the order and it was still wrong.
Sub was dry and bad and cost $14 lmao. Cold sub guys were annoying. Way too much stake on the
Delicious Italian sub! The service was impressively quick, even during the busy lunch hour.
