My husband and I had dinner here before a movie. I ordered the taco salad with chicken (my go-to. Yum!) The salad is huge, the chicken is good, the bowl is edible, it's fantastic. My husband had never been before. He ordered the beef chimechangas. He at 1 1/2 of them but said the cilantro was over-powering everything else and it was just too much. He said the rice was delicious and the salad that came with it was good. He wants to go again and try something different. We love that the front of the restaurant is completely open. The patio is really nice to have and adds a nice charm to downtown. The price is fantastic. Both of us had dinner for under $40 and we both left full.
I've been here twice and had a similar experience each time. Vibe not friendly - nobody said hello as we walked in and we waited at the table for a while before anyone came over to bring us a menu and take our drink order. I found it quite unfriendly.The food was surprisingly tasty, although a little pricy for what it is. That being said, I've actually tried to go back hoping that we would find friendlier service but they close early and aren't open at all on Sundays or Mondays so I haven't been able to.
Although I somewhat enjoyed what I ordered (Mexican platter /pico de gallo), my boyfriend is a vegetarian so the selection was already somewhat limited. He ordered something and didn't end up liking it, mind you the waitress was great about it and ordered him a cheese quesadilla for takeout. He was given a chicken quesadilla and wasn't able to eat that either. Although I would come back to try something else, I think he will need to specify that he is a vegetarian next time.
My wife and I have been going to Amiga's three or 4 times a year since it opened. Tonight will be our last time. The service was slow and not friendly at all. I ordered a 20 oz. Dos Equis which was warm and in a 16 oz. glass at best. When I asked the waitress (owner) about it her reply was "looks can be deceiving." The portions were small and the food average at best. Very expensive for what you get. Book a table now
My husband and I are regulars. It always surprises us that Amiga's isn't busier, if it was located in Hamilton, it would be packed. The portions are generous, the food is delicious, the quality very good and consistent. The owner lived in Mexico for many years so she knows what she's doing. Oh, and the price is right too, very reasonable. If you love Mexican food, visit Amiga's.
Amiga's is kind of a hidden gem. Location is not the best for some but adds a lot to the downtown area. Food is always awesome and authentic. Love the Mexican side do the menu and no other better in the area. Service is great and personal. They have also added an outside sidewalk dining area in the summer.
Always have a tasty treat there and the grape Mexican pop is a refreshing break from the usual ! Always good authentic Mexican and with good service and good prices

Great casual restaurant that specializes in Mexican food, they also have many other pub style food. Quality and service was good. I will go back.
