When we first arrived, it seemed to be a combination of local club and social hub. The private dining room is in the back. It is a little rustic, but with old school crispy bedding and extremely welcoming. The locals were striving to extoll the virtues of the kitchen and very helpful in assisting us in decrypting the menu. In the night we visited, the local Karnival committees were in the meeting next door. Along with many trophies and pennants who explain Xanten's Blood Sausage Committe 1972, you get the feeling that this is a local hub. The food is very well cooked. My vegetables were perfect al dente. The wine map is almost exclusively white, but these are the best German wines. Very good...

This looks like a pub from the outside, but the impressive menu on display outside attracted us in and I'm very glad that we went along with our curiosity. On entry it again seemed predominantly like a drinking establishment, but when we asked for a dining table we were ushered to a private dining room towards the rear. The elderly gentleman who was serving was very friendly and efficient. The menu was full of choice and the food was undoubtedly the best we experienced in Xanten (by far). The wine list was mainly German white but a good range to choose from across dry to sweet. Our dry Niersteiner actually went very well with the lamb.

This looks like a pub from outside, but the impressive menu out there has attracted us and I am very glad that we went together with our curiosity. At the entrance it seemed like a drinking water operation again, but when we asked for a dining table, we were picked to a private dining room to the back.
