After reading through lots of reviews for chip shops in the Dunoon area we decided this had the best reviews. There was quite a queue for early tea time on Friday, so we took this to be a good sign, and the staff seemed to know some of the customers quite well, which we took to be another good sign. We ordered two large cod and chips and patiently waited, it was busy, but it still felt like quite a good while. Looked up local chip shop and we found this , staff lovely , owner lovely friendly and was happy enough to answer my questions . I ordered Fish and Fritters for my husband and I had a steak pie and mushy peas , it cannot be faulted , and whilst there I asked what some of the things were in the grill and it was pointed out Chicken strips and also crunchy mushrooms , well we just had to go back the next night to try this and we both loved the chicken strips and the mushrooms Honestly it’s our first stop when we go back next March , and anyone in the area should try this
Went to Anselmos the other week and bought two single fish and two suppers for my wife and I and two cans of coke. Decent fish! Bit greasy according to my wife but I really enjoyed mine, kids liked their singles as well. We normally just go to Queens Street on fish night but we wanted tae try something different, this place was just across from the kids primary school and it was great! Chips where nice and thick and fish had lots of flavour! We will be back
Absolutely shocking service, mainly from the owner himself, staff treated like a bit of dirt on his shoe, can't stand people who can't treat employees correctly. Owner/head chef never smiles and he's constantly moaning about energy prices and fish prices.. Yes everyone is aware of the cost of living crisis, we are all suffering but god we don't need to hear it from you when we're giving your business a small fortune for a bit of over done fish and 22 chips!

After not writing a TripAdvisor review in years, I felt compelled to share my experience. During a festival in Dunoon at the end of May, I ordered a couple of single fish dishes for myself and my partner. The fish was absolutely delicious - the batter was perfectly golden and crunchy, and the flavor reminded me of classic chip shop fish. I highly recommend trying this place if you ever find yourself in Dunoon.
I purchased 3 fish and chip meals on Monday, June 20th. I had assumed that the food was cooked to order due to the wait, but it was evident that this was not the case. The chips tasted like they were reheated, and the fish was soggy and greasy. Despite looking forward to the meal, all of us found it disappointing and did not enjoy it. We will not be returning to this restaurant.
Excellent food. We loved this local cuisine. We had the fish and chips, smoked sausage, mashed peas and a pickled egg onion the egg and onion were recommended by a local waiting in line with us). Everything was delicious and very generous portions. Everyone at Anselmos was very friendly and very social. We ate here twice. You have to try Anselmos, you will not be disappointed.
I usually rave about Anselmo's however, on this visit we were disappointed. We both had fish supers. We both believe the fish was double fried and greasy on this location i.e. not freshly prepared. The meals provided this time were of a poor standard.

We ordered a big and a small fish supper for £18. It was extremely disappointing as the fish was soggy and the chips were reheated. We don't plan on going back anytime soon. Very disappointing.
This is now our local chip shop. Portions are generous. Husband loves the scampi. Staff friendly too. Always a queue but that is because it is so popular.
