The Anthracite Cafe was a mixed experience. The bar/restaurant was mostly crowded at 7 p.m. on a Friday night, and quite noisy. My party of two had reservations, and was seated promptly once we entered. The server was a pleasant woman, and a large party next to us had a different server who was very attentive to their requests. Although my girlfriend and I ordered two cheeseburgers, we had to wait approximately 45 minutes before our meals arrived. Maybe there wasn't enough staff, maybe the establishment was very busy, but I found the wait to be a bit excessive. Just good. Not great… Not terrible. the food was pretty good. Everyone’s meal came out hot and fresh and was pretty flavorful. I opted for the Middleswarth burger which left a bit to be desired. There wasn’t much of the chips the menu had claimed for it to have. They seemed mostly laid on-top and not spread very evenly. The cheesy sauce was good but the patty itself seemed like a normal burger. The other person in my party got a regular burger and I would have probably just got that and saved a few dollars. Wow, what an amazing experience! The food was absolutely delicious! We took advantage of the 2 for $28 Tuesday special. We shared nachos, while my partner ordered ribs, and I went for the blackened chicken alfredo. I also decided to try a beer flight to sample different brews, and I was thrilled with all of them! It was our first time eating there the waitress was absolutely wonderful loved her gave her a great tip. But the food was lacking my food was great but there wasn't much there for how much they actually charge for it just like my husband's dinner 5 tiny pieces of meatloaf. He asked for potatoes and mac and cheese and only got the mac and cheese. Tiny tiny tiny serving of corn asked for extra corn on the side didn't even fill the bowl they gave. I really I'm disappointed for all the hype people give.

“First visit after many recommendations. Overall everything was great. Our waitress Lisa was excellent! She was pleasant, attentive and an asset to your restaurant. The only downside was the iceberg lettuce, carrot and cabbage mix. This bagged mix never tastes fresh and always has a distinctively packaged flavor. The menu says “mixed greens”. The salad would have been much better if it had actually consisted of a fresh mix. That being said, we will dine here again!”
Went here on a visit to Wilkes-Barre based on reviews. It did not disappoint. The service was above and beyond. The food was fabulous. I ordered the pretzel chicken with fries it was to die for even the salad that came with it was fresh and packed with more than just lettuce. Loved everything about the place. Will definitely be back every time I'm in the neighborhood. 5 stars isn't enough I would go 10 I'd I could.
I always enjoy the food from this place! The portions are generous, and everything is fresh. The flavors are fantastic. We did have one not-so-great experience, but they went above and beyond to make it right! They truly care about their customers. I'm really grateful to live so close to such an excellent restaurant!
Came back here after my initial visit 2 years ago. Staff as the first time were amazing and very friendly. And while I still love the variety of their menu, both picks chosen from both appetizer and entree contained chicken which tasted off.
