It is an easy day outing from Zurich. We took a train from Zurich HB to St. Gallen and then Bus to Stein AR post which took us right in front of the factory. The cheese factory is not very large and they have...English language tours some days of the week (call ahead to check) . We went on a day when English tour was not available but they provided us an app (free WiFi) and it was easy to understand everything thereafter. We were already pleasantly surprised with the reasonable entry prices considering we were in Switzerland! Included in this price, they gave us welcome cheese samples and we filled a small pouch with their secret mix of dried herbs at the end of the tour. The staff is very f...

Not sure if this entry is only in regards to the cheese factory show room I have written a separate review on that. This one is about the restaurant. We went straight to the restaurant as we were hungry and looking forward to a...big cheesy meal. It was a warm and sunny day so we sat outside there are plenty of tables. The service was very friendly (different people), efficient and professional. The food well, just amazing. Give us something with cheese any day in particular Appenzeller cheese! We started with the cream cheese soup and wow, it was so full in taste, so creamy and thick! You must try this although it is a heavy starter! My wife went for the Rösti with ham and lots of cheese on...

we went to lunch there and then visited the cheese factory. the restaurant offers many very delicious traditional dishes from the region of course with cheese, but also with local sweetnesses like the world-famous biberli . when you see how the world's best appenzell cheese...is a highlight where you can offer tiny portions cheese to taste and get a key to unlock almost all secrets. it is well suited for children and the shop at the end of the tour gives them the opportunity to buy many tasty were for their friends and families to house. Its a great Stop on the plan of a day trip. Especially cool is to witness the creation of Cheese. Not to mention the excellent cheese dishes ! Cheese salad etc. Very idyllic setting with great view to the mountains. Excellent choice after an Santis...mountain excursion (that 's where we Highly recommend the Brunches with Original Folk Music and a breath taking view.

Nice to see the production of the cheese but don't ever eat outside in summer: too many bees!! Maybe I am a little paranoid on the subject but you really can't stay outside drinking a beer while bees try to drink from your own bottle...too. I was obliged to escape from them and go eating elsewhere :

We went to the traditional restaurant, upstairs, rebuilt after a fire say 15 years ago, and the food was piping hot and delicious try the cheese soup! We also watched the baker at work, and the cheese being made. A memorable Sunday lunchtime trip! Book a table now

The factory is located in Stein. The tour is very informative and flowing. You also get some cheese and herb samples. There is also a shop and a restaurant.
