We really wanted to like Kaigan, as it had availability with other Japanese restaurants were fully booked. The fish is fine, definitely fresh, but it tasted very bland. Even the rolls seemed to be not quite there. I liked that they didn't put a lot of heavy sauces on them, but they were still lacking in overall flavor. Service was minimal. I had to say twice that I had an Open Table reservation so they could check me in. Several people came by the table, but there was no warmth or connection. Just bussing dishes. There really isn't much here that would make me want to come back
Although the service was attentive and accommodating, the hot food was served only mildly warm...even the soup. The waitress didn't couldn't name for us what we were eating, she needed to call over the manager who then in turn asked the sushi chef. English was minimal with the waitstaff. The fish was fresh and the portions large. Considering how many Japanese restaurant choices one has on the Peninsula, this would not be my choice again
It was not a very busy night so I could choose to sit wherever I wanted. There's a lot of food to choose from on the menu. I ordered the yellow curry with white rice but the curry didn't have much curry flavor. The service was decent. So I think it's worth going back and trying something else on the menu
Service was very good though there was some confusion and misunderstanding when asked about the “heat level” of the various types of curries. Food was tasty and well prepared. This was our first visit and we were pleased with our experience

I had the Bento Box with hamachi sashimi and it was really delicious. The rice mango pudding dessert was also very tasty. I will definitely be returning to try out other dishes!

Service is always good, it should be since they’re not busy. The bento box is a generous portion. Ramen is not that great, it’s just OK
The egg plant salad was nice. If you want spicy, the first roll "breath of fire definitely lights you up. Very good overall
