This place is famous and established in 1789. It's tiny and I found it recommended on TripAdvisor. Yah it was fantastic. After a stressful drive finding it via GPS and then parking, God was on our side as there was one table left outside in the sun for us for lunch. We didn't have long but just devoured lunch. I had the house special Salade and hubby had steak tartare. The manager was a little offhand and brusque but I just charmed him. They sell a famous liqueur there also; quincoila but we were driving. Highly recommended.
This is the kind of place that used to be all over France- wooden chairs out on the street, good, simple but tasty food, and cheap. Au Père Louis carries on this tradition, and adds great service to the equation. A mushroom omelette was just as it should be, and the kidneys in mustard sauce were sublime. There's a decent selection of wine, a chatty, humerous waiter, and a bill which was very decent. Highly recommended for lunch- apparently it is also the place to go for an aperitif in the evening.
I dont think this would have been a wine bar in ye olde days but it is now and it is a real scene and well worth looking for. Our friends knew about it, made lucheon reservations and we are glad they did.The standard Toulouse frites slathered in gravy were fabulous and everything else was too. Im still thinking about that simple dish.
I had been told about this little gem by a friend and made a post of seeking it out - I was not at all disappointed. This amazing little bar has been around for ever and it is little wonder it is so popular with locals. We only meant to stay for a drink and stayed for hours - it is a MUST of you are in Toulouse.
