A perfect, original meal, from local products, in a cozy setting in one of the Plus Jolie Village de France after a scenic drive. What more could you ask for? We picked a wonderful day for our 2 hour countryside drive over to Collonge-la Rouge in the Correze department of southwest France. In summer, this hillside village built over centuries from the iron rich stone from the quarries nearby, is a jumble of small streets filled with tourists wandering through the red walls of the houses and shops and church. The tourists have gone, but the restaurants needed to feed them are left behind. Yesterday the town was empty, but the restaurants were well filled with happy french diners. We were luck...
Friends booked this for us and my first impressions of this weren't that positive. It was lunchtime and we were showed upstairs to an airless, stuffy room with several tables full of no one talking to each other! Odd.After insisting that we sit on the terrace outside, things improved remarkably. This is a lovely restaurant.There's a garden you look out onto full of wild flowers and butterflies and the rolling French countryside - it's just marvellous.The lady who served us was very sweet and we soon started to get on well.The food was great - foie gras followed by trout and them crème brule. Just good cooking in a good setting with good company in one of the most beautiful villages in France...
This our 2nd lunch at this auberge and it was as pleasant as the first time. The view of the valley is lovely, service friendly and efficient and the food is very good. Both the magret and the trout were delicious; small portions, but considering the entrees, the cheese -very nice assortment- and desserts, we had plenty to eat. We were there in August, during the week, and the village was super crowded... So make reservations and if you are just passing through for lunch, park at the entrance of the village in the public parking lot.
I've eaten here many times and even though the restaurant changed hands a few years ago, the food still remains at a high level of quality. What I love is eating out on the terrace on a summer evening. The Auberge is located right at the bottom of the village of Collonges and looks out over the countryside. The food is regional classics and is done really well and you won't be burned by the cost. It's reasonable. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Collonges la Rouge.

The village is obviously quite touristy and the restaurant claims to offer a quality menu with local products. They are trying to promote the charms of a French village but with no manners. The staff was rude and the service was quite poor. The menu is extremely limited too. Also, be aware you and don't you think about wandering on their property after your lunch. Plainly rude, there are better places in town and owners with better manners.
Our last evening in this region and what a terrific place . Delightful food on a lovely terrace overlooking a rose garden and the surrounding hills, absolutely fabulous ! The food and wine superb and the staff charming as was this imaginative chef .. His food a delight to the tastebuds. Be sure to visit this lovely restaurant in a fabulous village .. We hope you enjoy !
This is a fantastic restaurant, with lovely food and wonderful staff. It matches some of the Michelin starred restaurants we been to in the UK, Belgium & other parts of France, We have a house nearby - and feel very lucky as we can visit regularly. Kevin Fitzpatrick
Second time of visiting and the standard is still good. Decided to choose from the Carte as set menu not offering the choice we wanted. Great location and service. However they wouldn't give out their wifi code which was a bit strange.
