Was invited by friends for a Christmas lunch here. The dining room was lovely and cosy, with the fire burning, and the Christmas tree and decorations adorning the room. We are very lucky in France to have some excellent restaurants serving top class meals at quite reasonable prices, so to go here for a British style Christmas lunch was not on the top of my agenda. The starters were, in my opinion pre bought, certainly not home made, and the lunch itself was mediocre to say the least. The roast potatoes were over cooked and burnt in places, whereas the parsnip.....yes, one parsnip, was under cooked and hard, the turkey was a processed rolled stuffed turkey, not at all pleasant, and the minima...

We were greeted by Alex on our arrival and shown to our accommodation which was clean and provided everything we needed. We were the only guests staying that evening so the evening meal menu was limited to a few choices. However, when what was on offer didn't suit all of our party, Alex went out to buy in food to meet our dietary needs in order that we didn't have to drive back out to the local village to eat. Our evening meal was delicious, finishing with a great breakfast sitting outside in the sun. Alex even provided us with Yorkshire teabags from his fast depleting stock. Had we known, we would have taken a box of said teabags with us. For a very friendly, accommodating service and comfo...
Very good value dining with traditional French cuisine. Fixed price menu is good value with two options, €18 or €21 for three courses. An A la carte menu is also available. Wide variety of wines, appertifs and other beverages at reasonable prices. Good size servings without being excessive but substantial. Seats possibly 20-30 patrons, cosy, wood fire and character. Stunning views to the Pyrenees over sprawling country side. Creme Brûlée is an absolute must. Service was impeccable and friendly, fluent in French and English. We'll be happy to return. Rachel and Alex took over the Auberge just over a year ago and they're working hard to grow their business. The food is tasty and simple, their rooms comfortable and clean, and you always receive a warm welcome. Whether you're looking for a venue for a wedding, a family meal, somewhere to put up guests or simply a quiet evening or night away somewhere different, I can thoroughly recommend Balestié. The property has stunning views looking out over a lake, farmland and, of course, the Pyrénées!
