Auberge Saint Walfrid is a lovely family owned hotel with a one star fine dining restaurant. The historic building dates from the 18th century, however the rooms have been renovated to the highest standards. There is also a newer attachment to the original building from 2019, however our room was in the older part. Our room in the 2nd floor was spacious and had a bathroom with bathtub while the toilet was separate. Shampoo, shower gel, body lotion and conditioner were provided, as were bathrobes. Dinner at the hotel restaurant was amazing, and service impeccable. We had five courses each which we selected from the a la carte menu, but could as well have gone for one of the two set menus. It's all about the food of course and there's nothing to complain about there. Quality ingredients well presented as you'd expect. The sweetbreads were perfectly cooked and a delightful dish. If you aim for the veal cutlet come hungry as it's huge but again perfectly prepared and one of the best I've ever had. Service was again as you'd expect, polite, courteous, efficient and discreet. If I had to be picky two things of note: The huge orange sun shades are effective but cast a strange orange light over everything, it would not be my choice but given the cost I expect there are here to stay. While the lunch was perfectly fine there was a lot of garden renovation underway and visually it's no...

Very comfortable rooms. Excellent newly built annexe, especially comfortable during summertime as it is air condtioned. We had a five course menu in the one star Michelin restaurant. The amuses bouche were nothing special, a.o. a simple oyster. First two courses, a crab dish followed by langoustine were very good. Third course lentilles were somewhat disappointing, nothing special. Main dish deer was very good, with lots of very good side, dishes. Dessert tarte tatin was somewhat disappointing, however with an excellent caramel icecream. Excellent wine choices. Very good professional service. Very good coffee and tea with traditional and good gourmandises. Quite nice and comfortable large res...

In the galaxy of one stars you can find very different things... from barely above good traditional auberge to pure craziness... and also extremely solid chefs with both technique and a pinch of originality. My dinner at St Walfrid belonged to the latter. Beautiful products first, nice but not flashy presentations second, plus cozy setting (nice quiet terrace) and very efficient service (being alone I appreciated the rather rapid tempo). God bread, limited but nice selection of wine by the glass, excellent coffee. Smiling but slightly im personal service. Overall reasonable prices for that quality (the menu looked particularly well priced, although I didn'tt select it). Highly recommended.
