So let's talk ambiance. A nice, clean, simple French restaurant. The have outdoor seating as an option. How about service? The waitress we had was very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the items on the menu. Now food. We ordered the fondue which consisted of very small unevenly cut bread and apples, overcooked broccolini and shaved radish. Firstly, I expect anything French to be visually beautiful and appealing. This looked like they handed a knife to a preschooler and asked them to cut the items. I ordered the Legumes Au Vin. The menu description is, roasted vegetables, burgundy and potato. What came out was basically a base of mashed potatoes covered with gravy with a few onions...
i use for business lunches and personal dining at least 2 or 3 times a month. The staff other than Laurie who works Sunday Mondays only , is aloof, uncaring, and generally miserable. No smiles, no personality to make you feel welcome. Unfortunately, the food is decent although, they have cut back on adding a starch to their duck entree. The staff other than Laurie don't like happy hours 3-6 daily bc, the prices are low and many guests choose to fill up and not order dinner. Short sighted , bc every time we have ordered off of happy hour menu, we've ordered a full dinner, coffees, and soup. Attitude is the issue at Avert! This was the perfect Happy Hour. My first time here as well. Didn't want to eat much since I was heading to an even afterwords. Met with frito kill some time and catch up. I must say this was the perfect place . It's been a while since I've had Escargot, and they were soo good! My friends enjoyed their drink, croquettes and French fries. I did take a look at their Happy Hour Menu and they had many great things to choose from. We sat at the bar so our bartender that took care of us was great! It was around 530,6pm so still early and not too busy yet . But it was nice inside. I'm sure it's nice in the summer when the large windows are open! Glad we stopped here for a cocktail and dessert! Our bartender, Brian, was so kind/friendly/attentive/patient. I got the chocolate mouse and the biscotti martini. My friend was undecided about a drink and staff raved about the la fleur cocktail so much that they made her one to try. She didn't like it, but I did!It's a beautiful botanical/fruity drink. I also posted a picture on my instagram story and had so many people asking me where I was! Either way, they made her another drink which was the creme brulee martini and she said it was amazing. I will definitely be back and likely will sit at the bar if Brian is there!

Stopped by here on a trip back to NY from visiting family further East- and was really pleasantly surprised. Everything we ordered was excellent. I had the legumes au vin (totally vegan version of the classic dish, absolutely delicious) and my husband had steak frites. This will be our new spot on long drives across CT for sure!!
