We were wondering around the country side on Saturday around lunch. we turn on a side road close to the border and there is a little charming place. Few tables on the sun, a fountains and flowers blossoming everywhere. A perfect location to rest and...to be surprised. I went inside to find a waiter and the tables were all taken, i had a quick glimpse at the surrounding and it was well decorated and welcoming. We ask if we could seat outside. the nice men with a friendly attitude let us choose the table as no one was there yet, but in a matter of few minutes all table were taken by visitors appearing from nowhere.. we ha a nice glass of cold aligoté as aperitif and then plat du Jour a fillet...
At Babel, all is fresh and served with generosity. Rösti is tasteful and Babel fondue is a must for 'fondue bourguignone ' amateurs : unlike most restaurant who serve it with many sauces, Babel proposes a fresh mayonnaise with plenty of staff to add to it...: onion, parsley, capers, chive, garlic, etc... Be ready to be very close to your neighbors if you are in the 'café ' part of the restaurant. Ask for the dining room for more intimacy ! If you cannot stand to have cheese smell, do not go. But if you are ready to spend a good time and have a delicious (not gourmet) dinner lunch, do not hesitate. Tip : in the summer, the terrasse is wonderful !
Very few restaurants in or around Geneva are worthy of revisit, Cafe Babel is one of them. I went there more than 5 times during my time in Geneva, they do traditional cuisine, and they do it well. The decoration is like you stopped in time. I enjoyed it everytime.
