Literally a few steps from Münchenbuchsee train station, Bären offers traditional Swiss food at moderate prices. I had dinner in the wooden café style room which boasts a warm and relaxed atmosphere. Booking strongly recommended even on a Monday almost all tables were occupied. Thumbs up to the young team for the smiling and efficient service during the dinner. The menu is short, Bären prides itself on having homemade dishes and supporting local produce and suppliers. As starter I chose the goat cheese quiche served with cabbage pumpkin salad: very nicely presented and tasty. The main course was ‘’Rehpfeffer’’ kind of venison stew, served with all the trimmings: red cabbage, chestnut, spätzl...

Its the hunting season here. Local and traditional game dishes are everywhere. We had deer, elk and chamois dishes with all the many classical sides, such as Knöpfli, red cabbage, Brussel sprouts, caramelized marrons, pears, mushrooms etc. Not to forget porcini panna cotta and elk sausages with chutney as appetizers. We took a prosecco with elderberry blossom syrup for apero, and a bottle of Priorat to complement the tasteful game dishes. Everything was delicious, highly recommended. And make a reservation, it was completely booked, on a Wednesday.

The bear has a separate gluten-free menu with many options that vary by season. The staff is helpful and fried. The food is fresh, regional and delicious. You also have gluten-free Cordonbleu options. This time we chose a chicken burger with homemade sauce and baked potatoes. Very delicious. felt really safe and welcome.
