3 stars feels a little harsh, 3.5 would be about right I think. Overall I would say that the food was really good but perhaps not as good as I was expecting based on the price. I started with homemade breads which were served with...a small knob of herb butter. The butter was just out of the fridge and not really possible to spread. This is so frustrating as its an easy win. Just make sure the butter is soft enough to spread. We went to Ben's for a Sunday lunch recently and ended up sitting in the rear of the restaurant opposite the kitchen hatch not ideal. There was perhaps inevitably a smell of cooking and burnt fat which was a shame. We opted for a...black pudding and poached egg starter which was very nice and then we mixed it up with some having beef and others lamb for main course. Both were very good without being exceptional and the brioche pudding with creme anglaise was very tasty. This was perfectly good food and was excellent value. I had been looking at my visit to Ben’s for Sunday dinner and the starter was not disappointed, but when it came to the net, everything went to pieces! they boast that their flesh is all local, which it is likely, but that has not...to cut the lamb so fat and almost impossible through the belt. the bark looked out and cut well buy bad taste and, apart from the carrots and flower coal cheese, the veg blunt. one was the cheeseboard, very nice. someone from the staff would have had to show care if teller went back with a lot of meat uneaten. I got a voucher for Ben’s to christmas, so I will try back to the dinner menu, I hope this is a better experience.

We visited for dinner on a Saturday night and were impressed with the locally sourced food and good service. The only negative was that some of the elements of our starters were under seasoned for our taste and we felt that the starters/desserts were slightly...overpriced. The mains (venison and blade of beef) were cooked well and tasted delicious.
We found Ben's whilst looking for a restaurant half way' for everyone, and I'm glad we did! Very pleasant atmosphere, we were one of the last tables of the night (midweek) but felt no pressure to finish/leave. The food was top notch, can't wait to...go back!!
