My wife and I were staying in Gravenhurst and checking out the various antique shops when we decided to stop here for dinner. We both love going to diners with the simple but tasty food and small town friendliness. This place did not disappoint us.The restaurant looks small from the outside, but it extends quite a ways back and is split into two sections - one side with a bar and tables and the other with all tables and a bit quieter. It is very clean and pleasantly decorated with a retro but modern feel to the place. The pace is very relaxed and locals seem to enjoy coming back on a regular basis. Bethune's Bistro looks like it's been going strong since the '50s and nothing much has changed. It may have a fancy "Bistro" in its moniker but this an old fashioned North American diner that would be just at home in NYC. Just don't ask for a cafe latte. Instead there's filtered coffee that keeps coming fast enough to please Jack Reacher. The menu is high on pancakes (stunning), eggs (wonderful), bacon, chicken, soups, and great old fashioned chips and the short-order cook keeps it coming from the swing-doored kitchen. Great value for money, too. Old album jackets of ancient artists such as Mitch Miller decorate the walls but in a nod to modernity the bar has been built cunningly from split...

I went here last week. The food was way too salty. Whatever oil they are using to cook with tasted spoiled. The eggs, omelettes, potatoes were terrible. I think the ingrediates they use were the poorist quality you can buy. I was here last summer and had good pancakes but this time around they were only okay. I can say that the only 2 good things wer the location in good and the bathrooms were clean. I was sooo disappointed. Really, how hard is it to make breakfast food. This could be a good place but they have a lot of work to do.

Recently (about 2 weeks ago) with Son and Grandson in tow went for dinner. The best Fish and Chip dinner with Real Potato French Fries, almost unheard of today. Great Service to boot. Grandson had a burger, A nice juicy homemade burger, Check it out. Liver and Onions great as well.
