We were impressed by the location, the newly renovated rooms but dinner was a real “fiasco”! Tomato soup that tasted like pasta sauce or for a bruschetta, served barely lukewarm. Same temperature for the goulash soup. We sent them all back to be warmed up....We ordered then the “special of the day”: veal shank...served already off the bone...which means it was cut it way before serving and then badly warmed up/microwaved and served ... lukewarm with a side of mashed potatoes (dry and cold) and spatzle (nothing good either) We sent the veal back as it was really unacceptable and ordered the classic Wiener schnitzel, which was nothing special either, not thin as it should be. From the cozy beer garden you can see one of the impressive towers of the old cathedral. Now, which is better: Sitting in church thinking of the pub or sitting in the pub thinking of the church...? Anyway, the beer is excellent liter...works even better than half the size) the veal steak is cooked to perfection the Apfel Strudl does its job and the Russian waiter has a subtle sense of humour. Everything was perfect this evening except for the grill plate (Grillpfandl) which was dull, indifferent and only meant for tourists. Come on, guys, where is the German touch? Schweinhaxe, Sauerkraut und so weiter I couldn’t find it on the menu, and the Grillpfandl didn’t do the job.
I was heading to a different restaurant but got distracted by the beautiful courtyard garden setting of Bischofshof. It is located right next to the cathedral, is part of the historic character hotel of the same name. Tables are nicely clothed service old...school, unrushed friendly. It’s an idyllic setting, particularly in the warm summer months. Service was friendly helpful an English menu was offered. I can’t say that food was memorable or inventive but it was tasty, generous in portion very well priced.
Attracted by the enclosed beer garden we found this enclosed and shaded place near to the cathedral in the old town. As we prefer to eat and drink without being on public display it proved the perfect choice for a summer,s day with sun and...showers. Good range of beers and reasonable menu with fast service.

Located in Regensburg, right next to the beautiful cathedral Saint peters. Surrounded by quaint little shops and restaurants! Taking you back to the mid evil times! Right around the corner breathtaking views overlooking the Danube! Beautiful hotel, outstanding staff and excellent food. Must see!
We stopped for a beer and ended up enjoying the patio so much we had a second beer and a snack. My husband had to go find a waiter but sho did other patrons. If give it another try for dinner. The menu looked interesting....It seemed to draw a crowd of senior citizens. So we got right in!
This restaurant has a big and beautiful garden. We came in around and ordered snitzel which was very good. They also have a good selection of beers and wines. We had a lovely evening in this beautiful garden and service was also very good....Totally recommend this restaurant.
We arrived to town late and there was only one place open. What a find for us. The pork with potato and sauerkraut meal was simply amazing. So happy that we were directed here by our hotel. Highly recommend!!!
