Named Bistro 1843 to commemorate the year this domain was built – in 1843, this is a simple and unpretentious restaurant with a home like setting. Ample parking, easy to find, this old home has been converted into a restaurant by the young couple who own this place and run it as a restaurant. We were impressed when someone called us back to reassure us that a vegetarian option would be available. All tables were occupied. The guests seemed to be from around the area and were having a wonderful time. No one pushed us to hurry and leave, so I could see guests were relaxed and opening bottle after bottle of wine. There are well over a thousand restaurants in Montreal, and this is currently ranked #2! There are a very few not-so-positive reviews, mostly from four or more years ago. We were a party of 5, covering three generations. We each had a soup or salad, and 5 different main dishes: chicken, lamb, venison, fish, and veal. We tried four different desserts. Everything we sampled was exquisite. Of course a restaurant this good does not come cheap, and the bill, including a tip of 20% came to over $400, but one does not go to a restaurant of this calibre every week. I am a regular, and I cannot explain how delicious the food is. It's something to experience in a lifetime. The chef is truly gifted, and every plate is just unforgettable. Love, love love.
