My parents, husband, 1 year old daughter and I arrived just after opening when we knew the restaurant would be very quiet, there were only 3 other people at the time. We were shown by a waiter to a table outside in the sun and I asked for a high chair, it didn't come so my husband went to get one. We were then approached by another member of staff seemingly management(!) telling us very abruptly and rudely in French that it wasn't possible for us to sit there and we needed to move. He didn't apologise or show us to another table so we moved far out of the way (again the restaurant was empty!) Wandered round Montpellier on our first night & decided upon this place, as it was moderately priced & was fairly busy, despite being just off the main square. With very little expectations, we ordered the entrecôte for 2, served with fries, dressed salad (both served in a huge portion), bread & their house sauce (a peppery Béarnaise like sauce).We were very pleasantly surprised. It is not fine dining, but the beef was as good as we've tasted in more expensive places. Charcoal grilled, it melted in the mouth & tasted wonderful. The accompaniments were good as well.Paired with a very reasonably priced bottle of champagne, it was a lovely start to our holiday.
We saw the TripAdvisor logo on the door and decided to walk in for dinner. That was a good decision!Menu was in French and thankfully our waiter explained to us in English. Ordered the 180g beef for euros12.90 and came with a big bowl of french fries and a big bowl of salad. The meal for 2 cost euros30.Beef was tender and we decided that we would order the 800g beef for 2 (euros45) the next time. The Chemelcia was so good we wiped every drop of it off the plate with bread.The thin cut fries were good and salad was iceberg lettuce with olive oil/lemon juice dressing.
I was there for lunch. They offer a menu of one main dish plus a choice of salad and fries. You can choose the on of 5 main dishes but no choice for salad or fries, unless I didn't understood well in French. The salmon was good for the price with enormous powl of Salad and to-be french fries. They offer a choice of french wines but I don't drink, so you need to try it your self. The seating area outside is nice and the staff is friendly. Give it a try for average cost meal.

We have been in France for just more than 2 weeks now. The surley attitude of the staff is certainly the worst we have encountered. The salad consisted of lettuce leaves going brown at the edges, with no other vegetable ingredient at all. The chips had black pieces through them where infected potatoes had been used. In fairness though. TMy beef was OK and so was the Salmon my wife ordered. Otherwise they would not have scored so high.
Perfect dinner in this restaurant next to our hotel during our stay in Montpellier. Food Excellent, but most importantly, the waitress was amazing. Simple things, but huge difference when you have that quality of service in France. We had one of the best evening thanks to the Bistro Regent. Will definitely go back.
Menu was limited but wide enough choice for the three of us. The sauce that came on the meat and fish was delicious, chips average and salad just one type of lettuce. Overall a good restaurant for a family meal. Great to sit outdoors too!
Quality meat, the principle of fries and salad at will please everyone, value for money very fair. Special mention to the good mood of the servers!
