Apparently The Black Swan has a Michelin Rising Star and is a AA rosette restaurant in so our hopes were high for a great evening meal. Sadly we were hugely disappointed as we paid through the nose for some very pretty but completely flavour free food.We started with the free range Free-range Chicken Terrine with Pea Mousse, English Quails Egg, Peas and Crispy Bacon and the Pan-fried Mackerel with Mackerel Fritters and Warm Pickled Vegetables. Both dishes were extremely well presented but, and it is a BIG but, they had little or no flavour. The Chicken was utterly devoid of any flavour at all, in fact, the only item on the plate that tasted of anything was the crispy bacon. The fish dish was...

Unfortunately, we were very disappointed, as we have paid for some very nice but completely tasteless food through the nose. we started with the free area chicken terrine with pea mousse, English quails egg, plucked and crispy bacon and the Pan-fried mackerel with mackerel fritters and warm pickled vegetables. both dishes were presented very well, but it is a big, but they had little or no taste. the huh was completely free from any taste at all, in which did, the only point on the teller that tasted of everything, was the crispy speck. the fish dish was lit...
name: johnemail: recently stumbled over the most beautiful pub while on a walk near the white horse. the black wan an oldstead is located in a beautiful remote location, about a mile from byland abbey. we were greeted by a burning fire and friendly host and I was pleased to see a selection of Cask-Ales including black sheep and copper dragons. enjoy a well-earned drink on the mouseman' bar, which we take on the specials board, not only their average pub duck. so impressed by our new sound we decided to return a week later to dinner. eating was just stunning! we've been back five times and never found a debt. the family who own the pub and the personal are friendly and efficient. this is not...
A hidden gem close to Kilburn and Byland Abbey found by accident when we couldn't get a table in nearby Ampleforth, The Black Swan offers locally produced beef, pork and lamb cooked to perfection and a selection of pudddings to suit the most selective diner. The general ambience is relaxed and friendly, the furniture is mainly oak, some of it made by the famous Mousey Thompson workshop in Kilburn, stone flagged floors in the bar complete very very comfortable surroundings. The last time I went it was in a group of seven for a birthday party, the total cost including pre dinner drinks, wine and liqueuers was a little over a head: fantastic value for such a good evening. at the moment there are 169 michelin in Britain, of which 66 in london. if my dissatisfied hunger had his wise, we would visit each week and about four years later, give or take some new supplements, we would eventually rush them all out of the list and most likely be bankrupt. let's be honest, we're not out of money, so even a month is a bit wounded, so what do we think to pack three in three days!?
Quite wonderful. The most imaginative pairings of flavours that anyone could dream up. We went for the lunchtime tasting menu and everything was absolutely stunning, starting with the cocktails. The wine pairing was inspired, with the biggest surprise being a fabulous Polish dessert wine. Service was friendly and absolutely impeccable. Book a table now
smoked eel with apfel, beetroot horseradish – a simple dish of balanced aromen (especially the Crème kingdoms and smoke that does not overpower as they won their.)
