2022 UPDATE—NEW RESTAURANT called Bun Bo Dong Ba.May 2022. The 5 stared restaurant in my previous review is no more. Another restaurant takes its place. The food is decent but nowhere near the same as before. Last week I tried the Bún Bò Huế. The broth is still ok but the meat was cut paper thin, dried, hard without any taste. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s machine sliced from a frozen block of low quality meat. The noodles were not chewy but a bit over cooked. The number of item on the menu tripples. Even though I was born in the city of Saigon, I love me some Northern (Hue) food! I enjoy the appetizer more than the main courses because it's small, light and quick to eat. I found this Northern restaurant, Bun Bo Hue in a Vietnamese strip mall off of Senter Road in San Jose, CA. I got my favorite appetizers, Banh Beo, Banh Bo Loc, Banh Ram It and Banh Nam. They all came with fish sauce on the side with slices of jalapeños. Luckily for me, the jalapeños were not that spicy so I was able to bite into them with each of the appetizers. My family has been going to this resturaunt for over 20 years and it has never dissapointed. We always order banh beo and the signature bun bo hue and they are excellent. I will have to say though, the cleanliness of the resturaunt is not great and the service as well. At the end of the day, it’s the food that counts though!

I tried the bun bo, and while the flavor was a bit on the lighter side, the meat was fresh and tender. The banh beo was good, though it could have a slightly denser texture. I always appreciate the owner’s hospitality; he is incredibly welcoming!
This place is great, under new management. Grilled squid, and bitter melon salad pictured below. If it's your first time try the duck noodle soup (no photo because I ate it so fast).
New owners. Ordered cơm hến n mi quảng. Both below average. Won’t be back. The old owners was a lot better. Will go to the one on Paloma plaza next time for Hue’s foods.
I absolutely love it! The service is excellent, the food is delicious, the place has been beautifully remodeled, and it's very clean! What more could you possibly want?
