The food was excellent. The prices were better. Homey cooking....Not fine dining. My husband and I both had soup before dinner. It really was the hilight of the meal. We found this lovely small restaurant many years ago when we were exploring Nurnberg...and make a point of returning every time we return to Germany. It has recently changed ownership--we had a delightful visit with one of the new owners. He has the attitude and...positive energy that will ensure a successful continuation of the food and service we've experienced for the past years. Definitely worth a visit but check in advance to make sure they're open the night you are visiting since it's a hike up a couple of steep streets (very close to the Castle wall). Went here on a Saturday evening in a party of four. The unseasonable October weather allowed us to sit on the authentic wooden tables outside. The service was polite and swift. The menu offered plenty of choice including poultry, meat and fish. The potato dumplings...here are to die for. The turkey is succulent, tasty and well priced. All meals arrived pretty much together, something that is not a given I'm the daughter and age. The place is spacious and welcoming, inside. I would heartily recommend a visit here.
It took ages to get served as the young man was busy talking rather thank taking orders. When the food eventually came it looked huge, unappetising and had been under a grill getting very dried out both the chewy meat and shrivelled pasta. I...ended up with two large salad accompaniments and the driest fish I think I've ever had. A thoroughly miserable attempt at providing edible food.

Originally we chose a different restaurant but as the city was full, we started to hunt for a free table wherever we find. Burg Schaenke is a tipical local Stube with only tables. Service was kind and the food came very fast although the...place was packed. Good size portions and very tastefull dishes!!! Pricewise is also absolutely OK comparing to the overall price level of the city.
Despite its good location this is pretty basic and I would not recommend it. In days we saw few customers......not a good sign. Had one meal there......not exactly bad, but certainly not good. I heard the microwave pinging away......not a good sign. Pork Ok,...dumplings not very good, beer average. For us it was a fuel stop only, not to be repeated again.
with five people we have eaten tasty and inexpensive and very plentiful frankenwein. best order a 1 liter krug silvaner, drinks very well. we made 2 liters. gänsekeule was especially delicious. atmosphere less touristic than in nschbarschaft, tiny local with I think it were only 5 tables. better reserve. service fast and friendly. prices amazingly low.
The greeting when I came through the door was friendly and genuine. I started with Goulash Soup, which was very tasty. For the main course, I tried the Nuremberg Bratwursts which were superb. The decor is very traditional and the service is friendly. Great value...for money.
