This shop has greatly improved under new management. Used to be just a fish and chips shop with lots of takeaways and soft drinks, but now there is a standardised menu and actual dishes with vegetables and an artistic air to them. Yes, you go to the counter to order your meal and pay up front. Nice to know that the staff will log in your meal and take your cash and that you don't have to use the computer ordering system if you are computer challenged like my wife and I. My wife had 6 natural shucked oysters ($15) which were fresh and tasty. We were walking around the Saturday's market and due to the rain we tried finding a welcoming Coffee shop where we could eat the Italian donuts with a nice coffee. As soon as we walked in, my wife got approched by who seemed to be owner who was seating outside reading the paper with a second gentlemen. The way he approched my wife was not right and instead of a "sorry you cant eat that here".. she got told to "leave" even though we were going to order drinks. Well-located at the entrance of the bridge in Kirribilli. The servers are friendly and are attentive to your preferences. I mentioned I was gluten-intolerant and they offered to grill the fish for me.I ordered the fish, chips and salad. You pay extra AUD1 for the tasty tartar sauce. I would recommend sharing the jar. The fries were delicious as was the fish. The salad was wilted and over doused with the dressing and the portion was too tiny to merit the cost. I don't know if this is because it was take away or if this is how it is. The seats on the terrace were taken so I opted to eat out in the market.Great food, great service, great ambiance.
I don't particularly enjoy toast with my meals and this often causes a bit of confusion when ordering breakfast. Today was a pleasant variation to that theme. My order was processed without a fuss and I received a very generous helping of expertly cooked scrambled eggs and bacon with a super coffee on the side. Stumbled across this place by chance and was impressed. My calamari was delicious -light panko breading, tasty seasoning and tender. Great fries. My friend was impressed with her burger, juicy and really big.We saw someone eating the barramundi as we left, it looked lovely and we heard the woman saying it was awesome.Happy accident. Would go there again for sure.
My first visit to By the Bridge. This is not a fine dining restaurant but, if you want really good fish for a casual lunch, then this is the place. We each had the calamari. No tiny frozen rings. This was the real thing, lightly crumbed, tender and HUGE. Would definitely eat there again.
We had lunch there. Service was a bit slow but ok. Meals were ok. Nothing exciting but they were hearty servings. They did a decent job of lunches for a group of 5. Right near the station exit so it is a handy location.
