Stopped in for supper, Thursday night after early November. Restaurant was packed only a handful of free spaces. We each ordered a supper, traditional schnitzel (jagerschnitzel and schnitzel with rahm sauce) with fries, spaetzle, salad, beverages (local beer and wine). Server was fast,...efficient, friendly despite a very heavy workload. Salad was excellent (radiccio, rocket, romaine, fresh herbs) -really fresh greens, well seasoned, simple vinagrette. The main meal was served fresh cooked and piping hot LARGE portions. They did not rush us along, we really enjoyed the meal and student pub like atmosphere. Ich war gerade zum 2. Mal mit meiner Freundin im Cafe Barfuß Essen. Pro: Nette Bedingungen und ordentlich gekleidet. hier aber mein großes Contra..: die Kartenzahlung ist in diesem Restaurant Ausgeschlossen, was mich im ersten Moment verwunderte. Doch als unsere Rechnung kahm, war uns klar wieso. 27€ waren zu zahlen und aus Kleingeld-mangel musste ich mit 1x 20€ Und 1x 10€ bezahlen. Ohne Nachfrage ob es so passt oder einmal mit der Wimper zu zucken, nahm unsere Bedienung das Geld, sagte Danke und ging weg. Dies ist uns nun schon das 2. I've now been here times. First up, the food is excellent. Really tasty and massive portions at very good prices. What is the massive bug is the service. It is either super-fast and attentive or utterly hopeless. An example of the latter is wanting...to order a second drink after a finished meal only to be ignored completely. Having given the order, our plates remained on the table, again ignored. The staff were either straightening menus or talking to each other. On asking for the bill, inertia again followed. It does seem to depend on the staff as they have also been brilliant. So, to sum up, you'll leave full and with a nice taste in your mouth but you may need to be VERY patient!
This is the perfect location if you want to have a chat, eat something good and simple. Exactly what we were looking for at this moment, this is why I give points. Compared to a food-specialized restaurant it would be points. It's more...a bar than a restaurant but a very friendly atmosphere. Guests are many students but generally mixed. And I can highly recommend the beer, which they have, called Grevensteiner The service was a bit understaffed :

Die nette Studentenkneipe in der historischen Altstadt kann man wirklich empfehlen. Mittags im Café Barfuss: nette Bedienung, hübsches Ambiente, prima und reichhaltige Speisekarte. Das ausgesuchte Nudelgericht (grüne Bandnudeln mit Rotwein-Sahnesauce, Cherrytomaten, Paprika, Oliven und Hähnchenfleisch, darüber Parmesanraspeln) war sehr lecker und die Portion von der Größe her ordentlich bemessen. Ich war jedenfalls gut gesättigt.
Bin so ziemlich enttäuscht von dem Essen was zum mitnehmen bestellt wurde. Es wurden 2 Nudel Schinkenaufläufe zum mitnehmen bestellt, erhalten haben wir undefinierbares was definitiv nicht bestellt wurde. Ich werde definitiv nix mehr da bestellen. Tut mir leid.Service war trotzdem gut und freundlich.
The restaurant is located in the center. It's possible to eat outside, there is not a veranda but tables in front of the place! I enjoyed the simple soup of carrots with ginger!! They just have German menu but they help with translation and choice!

Restaurant with some history. Good for students. Placed right in the middle of the medivial town. Cheap food and good location to sit outside.
Really, very cozy place to meet friends and have some drinks and dinner. I'm visiting Barfuss every time being in Marburg.
