We visited as a group of friends knowing the quality and diversity if the food on offer. My liver tikka and King prawn tikka which 2 of us had as a main with chips was stupendous! My frends ordered the beef steak with the pasta...and mash. The waiter, the young man that he was lacking in skills, he was unhelpful, unhappy and he showed it. We wanted all our food to come out at once but he was adamant it couldn't. So he preceded to announce that as we had ordered a starter we would get that first and the steak would come out after. Then he brought one plate of prawns with chips . Nothing else came for another 15 minutes. Did I mention we had to ask for sauces twice and then wait! His reasoning...
I visited Akbars Cafe on Monday 3rd January 2022. The last I visited Akbars Cafe was some 10 years ago. It was my daughter’s birthday and we went as a family. I have tried Akbars restaurant a few months back and thoroughly enjoyed the food....We ordered a selection of starters; lamp chops and the waiter recommended lamb ribs. We also ordered fried fish, seekh kebabs and chicken nambali (boiled chicken with melted cheese on top served with boiled potatoes. For the mains we ordered a chicken karahi dish and a meat karahi. I have been to this restaurant a number of times over the years and it was always positive. My latest visit was a disaster. The food was very good, BUT the hygiene standards were terrible...!!! No sanitizer as you entered. Mens wash room had NO...water, the very little trickle that came out was stone cold. No toilet paper. No hand towels. I saw a large table being prepared for guests, no disinfectant spray just a damp mucky cloth to wipe it down. People's personal tissues strewn on the floor and in the corridor leading to the toilet facilities. In the times of COVID I would have thought the owners would have used far more sense. I won't be going back there in a hurry...!!! Put your price up...
Took 45 minutes to make my chicken burger and chips! The lamb ghosht took 40 minutes! I don’t understand why we had to wait almost an hour for such simple food? We watched many customers come after us and leave before us! When we spoke...to the manager he said I will speak to the chef. That’s all he said in a rush and left before we could say anything else. I have always come to akbars and have always enjoyed eating, but my last visit was not great. I went with my family for an ifthaar meal and it wasn't the best. the good thing was that eating arrived on time and we could. have our food in time for ifthaar. the food tasted good and was warm. the problem was hygiene. cutlery was dirty and even the sitting area was. it really didn't feel like a clean atmosphere at all. the waiter seemed a bit rude and so were the young men on the theke. they could really improve hygiene and customer service.
here a few times and eating was always consistent and tasty. the service has never disappointed and the personal is always super helpful and courteous. my only complicity is that they get them in and out as soon as possible instead. to enjoy after a meal, it feels almost as if they are ready to get them out. that's likely because they're always busy and they want to turn tables quickly. they don't understand me wrong, but it wouldn't stop me going back here.
First time i got a takeout, all food was stone cold! I complained to the manager and he apologised, but they had closed so couldn’t send it back. Second time i ordered a chicken steak, it was overpowered by spices to the point you couldn’t...enjoy it, i sent it back without a replacement and was still charged for it. Will not be returning!
