Looking for a good restaurant in Fribourg, I chose Le Belvédère in view of all the positive reviews. I was rewarded with a very delicious dinner. The large terrace offers a magnificent view of Freiburg perfect for warm summer evenings. However, I prefer food in the cozy and quieter dining room inside. The menu is short and focuses on homemade dishes. As a starter I had the troutceviche: delicious, well seasoned, refreshing. As the main course I chose the pan roasted mackerel fillets. Once again a really delicious and generous portion, the fish was very fresh. I finished the meal with a cheese plate level and delicious. The whole staff was welcoming, smiling and friendly. But don't go if you're pregnant or want your salad to wash properly. It is regrettable to leave a bad review to a place I would normally recommend. We have specifically asked that my wife's salad be carefully washed as she is pregnant. The salad comes in (Sty, btw) and a few bites in we see that it contains residues of dirt. We had to complain because the toxoplasmosis is a very real risk. A visible apology and friendly waitress agreed. In the end, however, the property must not have seen this as a mistake, as the salad has been billed regularly. Otherwise the food was good and cheap, and the view from the terrace is amazing. Too bad that the boss and management could no longer draw attentio...
In the bistro style restaurant upstairs from the bar, we eat probably the best autumn seasonal chasse or game meal we have had in Switzerland. From the amuse bouche with mustard ice cream, then a smoked trout starter followed by venison loins, all the components of this dinner were skillfully prepared and very flavoursome. A 2015 bordeaux from the small wine list made an excellent accompaniment. Efficient, knowledgeable waiter. Not cheap but worth the splurge.
I guess this place is famous for the amazing views over Firbourg that you get when you sit on the terrace. The staff is nice, but when we were there, they didn't have much of what was on the menu... We still enjoyed our time here!
