Having not checked at Trip Advisor before we went to Normandy, I opened it to review Cafe Gondree when I returned from my visit and was extremely surprised by some of the negative comments.The reason I visited Normandy was to understand and remember the history of the place, this included a visit to Pegasus Bridge. This was my second visit to Pegasus bridge, the first time i only had chance to take a photo briefly outside the Cafe. This time around i had time to go in. To be honest the experience was lacking - We weren't greeted warmly, in fact we were made to feel most unwelcome. The coffee was luke warm and bitter, (came out of a thermos). Was going to eat too but soon changed our minds!The elderly lady who owns the cafe was hovering in the back room behind the counter, i made eye contact and smiled and was rewarded with a scowl. Not impressed.This cafe has relied on its history to attract customers, I found that all 3 people serving had a lack of customer service.One person was serving who was engaged in a long conversation about the visitors educational prowess, while I waited for over 10 minutes.The 2 other waiting staff just walked past me into the back area.Where I could see they were doing nothing in particular,eventually one came over and took my order.I asked for coffee and a croissant, horror the coffee was poured from a thermos- at least it was hot!!I wouldn't buy a thing from there, take pictures and go over the road for better food and service.
I was looking forward to revisiting this iconic cafe with my family but the joy was soon nullified by madam. Not the faintest whiff of a smile, just a very solemn response to our request for coffee etc. She even corrected my son when she told him Latte was Italian but it was a ‘hostile’ correction. He insisted on letting her keep the change as he thought her solemn manner was amusing, I didn’t! Whilst I appreciate serving customers all day long may be taxing, if it’s so hard to pretend to have a tiny bit of appreciation for the custom, maybe time to hang up the tea towel.

Very nice cafe. We had breakfast here and very reasonably priced. Lots of history here. it's a must stop place even just for a coffee to site and take in the reality of what actually went on many years ago.
Place full of stories. Very good food, top service. We were able to speak with Mrs. son-in-law, someone who listened to our questions and we appreciated her answers. Thank you Ms. Gondre.
definitiw a must-visit because it's tangible history. full of artifacts and original but as a caffe, it is a bit müll!
Been here before. Same unsmiling service and poor coffee at tourist prices. Try the place over the road!
