We arrived in Biarritz in the early afternoon, and after a walk along the waterfront we began to get our hunger on. We tried 3-4 cafe's near the waterfront, and all of their kitchens were closed seeing as it was just past 3 o'clock. We stumbled a little bit further towards town and found Le Bar Bu, who to our delight were open! The waiter was a bit short on his English, but tried very hard to explain the menu, and in the end I went for the steak frites and the lady went for an omelette and salad. The steak was huge and cooked just how I like it, half alive. With bernaise sauce and a truckload of fries, I was in heaven. The salad and omelette was fantastic too. We visited Le Bar Bu for dinner one evening and were happy with our choice. We were quite hungry, so we ordered chipirons, croquettes, entrecote and chips which was quite a lot of food but suited our hunger : Everything was well made and the entrecote was nicely cooked (and not sinewy at all like entrecotes many times are . The bill was reasonable, some EUR 35 including also couple of beers and a glass of red wine. The service was friendly and efficient. The menu was in French, but the personnel spoke English well. This is not a posh place, but nicely relaxed with both young (surfer type clientele and families. They have a small terrace outside and some ten tables inside.

Excellent food. We had salads for lunch and the mozzarella di bufala was excellent. Also, we enjoyed the rosé Gris-gris and a Côte de Gascogne. The server spoke English, French and Spanish. Perhaps more. It was highly recommended by the wine vendor at Les Halles. We loved it. Both patio and inside seating. Steps to the beach.

We loved Le Bar Bu so much we ate here twice in our 2 day stay in Biarritz! The food here was all really delicious with such friendly and accommodating service and a great Biarritz vibe from the mix of locals, surfers and families. We hope to will return to Biarritz just for the cheesecake at Le Bar Bu!
