We found this cafe on the off chance whilst walking along Marktstrasse and decided to stop as it said Konditorei a good sign! We sat outside in comfortable chairs with sun umbrellas but the inside seating area is also light, bright and inviting. The staff are friendly and were patient as I ordered in limited German! You choose your cakes inside and are given a ticket, the waiter then brings the cakes to your table. We arrived early and there was an amazing array of cakes and pastries to choose from, as well as chocolates and ice cream. We opted for an impressively large cream horn and a very generous slice of the chocolate mousse and meringue cake, decorated with chocolate shavings. The choc...

Other reviewers have said Café Schuler has the “best cake and chocolate on the planet,” or is overpriced and unfriendly to children’s strollers. I find it to be none of these. It has top quality cakes and chocolate at prices that are reasonable for the quality. A sign restricts strollers from the back room, which is carpeted. They permit strollers in all the front rooms. This seems a petty point from a local reviewer. On our visit, every seat was taken. The clientele appeared to be people who regularly vacation in the area and are known by the staff. The waitresses appear to have been there for as many years as the clientele. They have ‘attitudes,’ much as you find in many famous café’s in V...

This place seems to be an institution in this small city. Nicely located on the Market Street, which is a pedestrian zone, it specialises in confectionary. I have eaten a light meal there but that was disappointing and one can do better elsewhere. However cake and confectionary are their speciality and one can get some good choices at reasonable prices either to sit or to go. Our favourites are Sachertorte, Black Forrest Cherry Gateaux and Bee Sting. Compared to Munich prices this offers excellent value for money. Comparing the confectionary, the best place in Munich that I know fails to come close and is much more expensive. Worth a visit, especially when in the area. I know of another bake...

Cafe Schuler has been here since at least the '50s the first time I came was in the early '80s and it has been the place that I never miss when in Germany even if it is a bit of a drive. The cakes are moist and delicious, order at the counter and then head back to order coffee and tea. The chocolates were something we carried back to the US, to be savored on special occasions. The marzipan (look for dark chocolate with the pink swirl on top) were my favorites. Expensive but worth every euro!
