This is serious walking country, the crossroads of many lovely walks, including the Via Alpine. Do not miss this place if you in Champery or nearby.. If you come from Champery by car, it is a bit of a wiggle until you get to the tiny but beautiful valley village of Baume but it is well worth it. We were served by Mariam, who in winter runs Le Toupin in Les Crosets but in summer is now working as part of the team here. The food was spectacular and I can't recommend it enough. We both had the Souris D'Agneu, which began with a small salad then the main course: a whole lamb shank which had been slow braised for hours if not days. This place is hard to find. You twist and turn along a single track road from Champéry for what seems like ages, climbing steeply then descending to the stunning Barme valley underneath the massive Dents Blanches. This is a hidden paradise of wonderful walking, but when you have earned a great meal, this refuge with rooms serves fabulous food. We ate lunch on the terrace in brilliant sunshine under parasols and it was perfect. Dole Blanc (a Valais white wine blushed red) was lovely, the plat du jour of lamb gigot with chanterelles mushroom risotto was sublime. This is one of those holiday moments that just worked. Arrivées à 12h30, servies à 14h!!! Pris la chasse: après 1h30 d'attente nous nous sommes retrouvées avec une assiette peu fournie, au prix bien trop élevé pour ce qui était servi! Assez déçues. Par contre le lieu est magnifique.
Shorter stop than expected! The owner laughs at me when I ask for simple information about the region! Haughty and unwelcoming after 8 hours of walking!
