Hosts Angelo and Marina offer lodging and meals in Casterino, France. This tiny hamlet deep in the mountains offers a great base for a variety of mountain adventure. We stayed at their gorgeous lodge for 8 days with no repeat of dishes on the menu of the day, and at least one extraordinary offering at every meal. Great food. An ala Carte menu and terrific cellar complement the overall experience. Angelo is a great sommelier serving with Italian enthusiasm. Some nights the restaurant had many guests not staying at the lodge; others we were surrounded by other guests. A special place worth the effort it takes to get into the high country where history and nature have many things to offer visit...
We’ve visited very friendly Angelo, Martine and her brother Andrea already a few times in Castorino and we have to say that we go here to feel like in heaven! From the quality of food in the very charming challet style restaurant with excellent Italian dishes and and fresh trouth ride from it’s own pond! Best meat dishes and also lots of vegetarian posibillities. An Italian wine selection you would not believe, all for very reasonable prices! Nice rooms and beautifull health spa. Lovely bar with very friendly Italian service. We can even recharge our electrical car on a triphase outlet in the garage. A ÉVITER Nous avons été très déçus par notre séjour dans cet établissement. Dès l’arrivée, une erreur sur la réservation . Au restaurant, le service était quasiment inexistant : Nous avons eu plein erreur sur la commande, aucun débarras des plats commander, aucune proposition de dessert malgré notre envie et nourriture médiocre. Le manque de professionnalisme du personnel était flagrant, donnant l’impression qu’il n’est pas du tout formé à accueillir correctement les clients. Un hôtel de ce standing devrait assurer un minimum de suivi et de qualité de service, ce qui n’a malheureusement pas été le cas. I stayed at the hotel for 1 night Aug 17, 2023. Casterino was a stop on my 10+ weeks hiking tour on the VIA ALPINA (red trail: Triest to Monaco). I arrived at this nice place pretty worked up (sweaty and dirty) late afternoon without a reservation. The reception manager Carole was super nice and resourceful. I got a quiet and comfortable room and a reservation in their restaurant that evening. Carole went way above being helpful: Because there is no grocery store or any other place to get food in this hamlet, she organized nuts, fruits, and bread for me to take along on my hike the next day. A very good experience in this splendid place, ideal for discovering the Merveilles valley and the Fontanalba valley. A beautiful architecture of wood, of quality (I am sensitive) and a warm welcome. Quality cuisine in the evening, with a beautiful wine cellar. Only regret: a small breakfast in terms of choice. But I'm sure this will improve under Carole's feud, our host.
We spent a weekend, the room was nice but under the roofs without a clim... a heat to die we didn't sleep, otherwise the frame is fabulous, the smiling and pleasant staff, the evening meal was very good, a little bit light but it's... bemol on the pic nique not suitable for hikers, is done instead for a pic nique on the grass... good address to relax
Beautiful frame and room, very pleasant staff and pleasure to exchange in several languages with them. Nice fireplace in the evening. Guided meals, although a little light if taken alone, but copied when taking the half-board formula. Possibility of ordering a delicious picnic for hikes.
A very atmospheric place. It's a great restaurant. Mega is delicious. I recommend the baranine ribs in the panic. It was a great pleasure to visit. There's a bartender and a waiter talking Russians.

The welcome is warm, the dishes are very satisfying and the attentive service. In addition, the decor is superb. We had a good time, we'll be back!
