It's a very good Vietnamese restaurant in Appenzell. Who would've thought you'll find a very decent Vietnamese restaurant here in the mountain region in Switzerland, but I'm glad we did--a little off the beaten path. Service was excellent. A young waitperson promptly showed up at our street side table and start talking to us. After finding very quickly we preferred English menu, he went back to get a couple of them for us. Drinks orders were taken, and by the time they were delivered to our table, we were ready to give him our choices of food. Food...my Phở Bò was very good. Beef was a little tougher than what I'm used to in the US, but I'm used to well-done beef served in Germany. Broth may...
Highly recommend the udon noodles and pho bo. Try making your own flavor of soup with their sauces, it's really ngon (delicious! and filling. Great for rainy weather or when you crave for something light and flavorful. Affordable, variety of choices and serves vegan dishes too! Love the ambiance, it's dainty on the outside, cozy and warm in the inside. Staff are friendly and homely :
We went to Chanh for lunch. My son had the dish of the day, a curry with rice, which was fine. I ordered the Pho Bo, longing for good Vietnamese food. Unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment, tasting nothing like Pho but rather like a bad generic broth. I shared the feedback politely but the staff did not seem to care much. I would not come back.
It was not the first time we visited the restaurant, but this time both our 16 and 18 year old girls were with us. They both loved it. Delicious food, large portions, wonderful environment. We look forward to going again. I highly recommend it.
