This is a place out of the past. A typical neighborhood get together. With very good food drinks and a homey atmosphere. The service is relaxed, but very friendly. Every customer orders and pays for everything at the bar counter. Then it gets delivered in cardboard containers. That is understandable, so they can keep the prices low. It doesn't detract from the very good quality of the food. People can sit over beer and talk as long as they want. With the larger seating, no one needs to be in a hurry. I've heard this is one of the great Locals places, and no joke. This is a must stop at place. You can tell from the moment you walk in that this has been a family favorite for generations. You can tell by the quirks of ordering and serving that you had best adapt to their ways, or you won't be served! Had the fried catfish, and wow. Light, crispy crust, flaky fish on the inside. Killer onion rings too.
Great neighborhood eatery and bar. This is Louisville’s own version of “Cheers”. Every neighborhood should have something this great to go to. Cheap drinks, awesome food and great atmosphere. The employees are awesome, bartenders they get to know you and your drink likes. Food staff are the hardest working crew I have ever seen. They get your orders to you hot and right.
It is a different atmosphere here, you have to stay in a line to place your order, only one register, if you need a refill for your drink you have to go back to the line, the food quality was good and it's a great place to watch sports. It was pretty busy for a Tuesday afternoon

I can't say enough good about this place. The food is excellent. The portions are generous. The prices are very fair. The staff are super friendly. The neighborhood feel and overall vibe are unbeatable. Absolutely, definitely recommended.
This place never disappoints. The food is excellent, so is the service. They treat everyone that comes in like family. They even know some of the customers name. I would recommend Checks café to everyone.
Crazy that I've never heard of checks before my employees suggested it to lunch. it was very busy during lunch, but it didn't take long until we get ours.
we ate there today and we are recommended from the condition of the cassians that we try some of their signatures like their rue sandwich that we did.

this cafe has been there since 1944 and survived the pandemic, yes! I have passed this place many times during my Schnitzelburg adventure and went.
Great local place! Good vibe! You order you food at the bar, and they bring it to you! This place has a great Fish Sandwich! I highly recommend it.
