I have only been in the Ottawa area for one month, but I have already discovered one of my favorite restaurants. I visited Chez Fatima for dinner on a Saturday night, and I was thoroughly impressed. Despite being new to the area, I was surprised to see how quiet everything was on the weekend. Luckily, we were able to find free parking right across the street. We didn't have reservations, but arrived early and managed to get a table. Most of the tables were reserved, so I recommend calling ahead. For dinner, you can choose from the menu or the buffet. The buffet costs $25 and includes soup, a delightful salad selection, bread, two vegetable dishes, tajines of lamb/fish/chicken, sausage, shrim...

The restaurant's interior was unattractive and the atmosphere was uncomfortable. The place was nearly empty. The real issue was our rude waitress who glared at us while we ate. Two people in our group ordered the buffet, which was overpriced and had limited options. Stick to the menu. Despite this, the food was fantastic. The complimentary bread was warm and delicious. The pastilla for 2 was a standout with its perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. The pastry was crisp, the chicken filling was flavorful, and the cinnamon and powdered sugar topping elevated the dish. The food was so good that I still think about it. However, due to the high prices and disappointing service, I would not...

My husband has actually visited Morocco, and he thought that the food here, like others have mentioned, is authentic. I found everything to be delicious. The chicken tagine had rich, distinct layers of flavor and wasn't overwhelmed with overly sweet fruit - it was just perfect. The lamb shanks were a delight, braised slowly to a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness. The hummus was some of the best I've ever had and was a whole different experience from the store-bought kind. Fatima herself was taking care of guests and creating a welcoming atmosphere. We plan to visit the area again and will definitely come back to this restaurant.

Thought we would try something in Gatineau and Moroccan was rated very high. We went on a Thursday night and it was about half full. The service was a bit slow to start, but they were super friendly and helpful. We split the hummus and feast for two with lamb and chicken in the tajine. The feast was a ton of food and very delicious. I loved the chicken in the tajine and the pastilla with seafood was very good. For dessert they brought us a few different cake options. The apple cake was divine! Overall I think it was a nice little spot in Gatineau. Worth checking out if you like Moroccan food.
