Ate dinner with a friend and had an underwhelming experience. The restaurant is in a great spot, the Devore is good, atmosphere is nice and service was reasonable but unfortunately the food was not good. My soup was unseasoned and tasted like it had been burnt - it was just soup, nothing fancy and not difficult to make. My main was fillet mignon and it was unseasoned and completely tasteless. My desert was le colonel du Nord which is just sorbet in alcohol but it was so discussing it was inedible. My friend ordered a 750g steak for main and when it came it was raw - it seems that all steaks are served raw with a hot stone so you cook it yourself. This restaurant was recommended to my wife and I by the receptionist at the Hotel Notre Dame, and we were not disappointed. Despite no reservation on a Saturday evening we were found a nice table on the first floor. We ordered steak and salmon and both dishes were nicely prepared and presented, as was the Crème brulée and the Crêpe à la confiture de mamie we had to follow. We would gladly have returned the following night but the restaurant was closed. However our young waitress very kindly made enquiries and recommended several local establishments that opened on a Sunday. A very enjoyable dining experience and one I would gladly repeat.
The location is in the very center of Valenciennes, just two steps right the corner of the Shoppin Mall. Intiriors are designed as typical grandmother house and the cuisine is the typical north of France. Extremely tasty and well done. Not some big choice, which usually means quality, and well prepared with the nevermissing French fries (frites) which here are amongst the best in town. Agood choiche of biers, draft or bottle, make an appropriate drink.
I went on a quite day for a lunch, and without speaking any french I happened to order Cote de Boeuf made in a hot wood plate (or something like that).I believe is not a day-to-day dish but that day they were offering it. It is one of the finest beef I ever ate, tasty, juicy and tender. If you are in the area, DO look for it!

Sat outside on a warm Friday evening. Steak on a hot stone was very good. The trio of mixed puddings was excellent. Service was also very good. Contrary to some reviews, we were given an English menu. Would highly recommend this eatery.
Quick service, pleasant and ch 'ti. The idea of ambience in grandparents is, for me, successful. Just a little loud in the current room, we'll see in the next one. I recommend!
