We made reservations here in advance of our trip to Halifax because it was supposed to be a really good special occasion restaurant. Found the service a little lacking at the start although the server did manage to make it better as the dinner went on. But honestly, an upscale restaurant like this one shouldn't have issues when it comes to serving drinks and not having it take 20 minutes for those drinks to arrive. Also found the room uncomfortably warm. The dinners were just ok. Nothing special about any of the 3 appetizers we ordered. One was the special for the evening but it was not as described. I honestly thought the restaurant was over priced and did not hit the mark it attempted to hi...

My wife, two friends and I were in Halifax as part of a tour of eastern Canada. We saw the reviews and popped in for an early dinner. The food was tasty from start to finish and although simple, had lots of flavour and was seasoned well. The service was also good and if picked well, there was some good wine on offer (A lightfoot and Wolfville rose being our favorite). I would certainly visit the restaurant again as the atmosphere was comfortable, unpretentious and the food delivered. I think this is exactly what the chef/restaurant was aiming for and they pulled it off to a very good standard. I would no doubt visit again if in the area.

From the outside Chives isn't the most attractive place in town but once up the stairs a well laid out and inviting restaurant with a good feel about the place. Service was excellent with good descriptions of the Specials not on the menu and good recommendations for the beers and wine. Food was excellent to say the least, and definitely deserves the Hype!!

I recently dined here with 2 other couples and a teen. We ordered at least one of everything on the app menu and it was all delicious. Seafood chowder was the best I've had in recent memory. Service was excellent as well and prices reasonable. This will be a regular stop on Nova Scotia vacations from now on.
