Cazenave has been established in 19th century and still lives up to its expectation. The hot chocolate there with cream and brioche toasts are to die for! Never tested anything like it and I have been traveling lots and visiting this place since my childhood. If you visit Bayonne, you have to try it, it is part of the experience. However, be patient, the service can be slow at times. You don't go there in a rush, you go to enjoy a moment out of this world.
Dont bother; the most overrated experience I have had in a decade. They had only one waitress for the whole restaurant. It took over 50 minutes to get a hot chocolate, which arrived cold. It would have been good if it hadnt been cold, but it is a limited art form! Very expensive compared to other cafes nearby. Most disappointed Other customers next to us agreed , also got cold hot chocolates
I had a selection of their artisanal chocolates, which were great! Some of them are probably the best chocolates I've tasted! That being said, the service was quite slow, even though it wasn't a busy time. It seemed only one person was on duty. And the much raved about whipped hot chocolate didn't really live up to the hype in my opinion. It was good, but not worth the 6€!
It has been there forever and for good reason. The house specialty is ' 'chocolate chaud or hot chocolate served with buttered toast. From French shoppers to school children to tourists this is a wonderful experience. The handmade chocolates they sell are also wonderful and it would be a shame not to take a box home.
