"We ate at Citizen for a special occasion with the US Air Force general. It was Sunday, most of "top places" were closed so we took advice about "Citizen" and were nicely surprised. Place is very nice, cuisine is inventive and modern (bit of experimenting that will NOT disappoint!) and very decent rapport between price and service. Well worth to visit!"

We had read other reviews of this restaurant and decided to give it a try. We had not booked and so went early and by the end of the evening (Saturday) it was packed. We chose from the table d'hote menu, "les Delices D'Inities" which was delicious and ordered a bottle of St Emilion which was very good too. The three courses ,an aperitif, wine and coffee came to exactly 110 Euros for 2 which for the standard provided was excellent. The staff were attentive and when the manager was advised that our French was limited he ensured that we had everything we needed and enquired if we were pleased with the food during each course. They also accept credit cards which some other restaurants in Epinal...

Even though the location is pretty good and the establishment is nicely decorated, the local cuisine is uninspired and the service really under par -- slow, unfriendly, and sincerely very defensive when asking for feedback that ends up being not very rosy. Moreover, it looks like we were one of a score of clients whose cheese included in the zen menu got somehow lost along the way. With barely an apology and certainly no offer for a discount. Avoid it if you can.
