Clearwater: A Recipe for Disaster Let me start with this: Clearwater in Newport is in dire need of a wake-up call. The only thing clear about this restaurant is that it desperately needs the executive chef to reassess the capabilities of the kitchen staff. We got there at 6:45pm, on Friday of Labor Day weekend, were seated immediately. We were seated less than a minute when they brought water out. The waiter, who was excellent, took our drink appetizer order soon after that. It wasn't too long before he brought the drinks took our order. I mentioned that I was trying to decide between 2 dishes he made a very good recommendation. The appetizer was great. The bowl of clam chowder was great. Our meals were great. I ordered the cajun seafood pasta it was the best dish like that (like seafood alfredo type dishes) I've ever had. The creamy sauce was perfect, not overly cajuny. We were there on a busy night in mid August, so service was a bit slower than ideal, but not too annoying. Food was very good, though the scallops I ordered were a bit overly salted and I thought the risotto was a bit sticky vs creamy, but my husband got the black cod special and it was amazing. Their Cinnamon Toast Crunch crème brûlée was to die for! Their bartender was also able to help the waiter pick the “toastier” (vs lemony) bottle of champagne to help us celebrate, which was much appreciated. This was a fun place to eat. They were full on the inside of the restaurant, so we ate on the back deck. I thoroughly enjoyed eating back there because it is right where the sea lions hang out. You can't have much of a conversation at times, but it was still fun! The food was good as well. I will definitely go again.

Awesome upscale meal. The view is amazing and the service was great. The fish and chips and the catch of the day were our favorites. Could have done without the ahi flatbread, was a bit of a low point on an otherwise amazing meal. Will come again!
It might have just been our timing, but watching the seals in one of the upstairs table seats was a highlight of our adventure. Top that off with amazing crab Mac n Cheese and a delicious cocktail...yup. They get my 5 stars.
I've givin clearwater multiple tries, food has proven to be unpredictable in serving size and taste. I will be trying local ocean next.
