As for the bed, it had a very firm spring mattress paired with soft, fluffy pillows that did not provide the support I needed. I asked for a different pillow—perhaps a denser or memory foam option—but was told all the pillows were the same.
To make matters worse, there was a wedding happening in the event space. I was on the third floor and it felt like I was right in the middle of the celebration! We explained our previous issues, including cleanliness concerns, and when we checked the room, we found several problems: a missing knob on the bathroom sink, a cracked and rusted tub, a burnt-out lightbulb in the bathroom, and even a hair in the tub. This hotel is in need of a major overhaul. Tenafly does not have many options, which is maybe why the Clinton Inn has been able to delay a remodel, but it is time. The rooms are out of date and many are falling apart. The paint is bad, there are dents, chips, holes in walls, and the carpet for sure needs to be replaced. (See all the Yelp photos. The lobby has potential, but the 'store ' is ridiculous. Food and frozen meals but only one microwave and no plastic silverware. If I spend $5 for ramen, you 'd think there would be some water around, but nope, had to buy a $3 water bottle, and then the microwave isn 't really tall enough for the container. Stayed one night as planned. It's an older hotel, and things are a little worn out. The room was clean, but amenities lack. Only a single cup coffee maker, accompanied by a single serving for regular and for decaf. Both dark roast. I personally don't like dark roast. Lighting is still cfl bulbs, and half of them were unscrewed. The fridge worked, but only one microwave is available, at the front desk, in our case, an elevator ride away. Bathroom was better than most i the same price range, but the toilets are not low flow. I would give this place zero stars if I could. I reserved a room for family visiting from out of state, and I was extremely disappointed. The lobby has an unpleasant smell, reminiscent of a funeral home. The hallways leading to the rooms have holes in the walls, the wallpaper is peeling, and there are visible signs of severe mold and water damage. Additionally, the carpets in the hallways are stained throughout. The floor we stayed on seem to experienced a flood. The walls and ceiling were wet and parts were taped off. The hallways and our room smelt of mildew. We checked in late at night and the staff seemed rude like he didn't want to be bother. This place is old and has some maintenance issues. Because of the wetness there could be some hidden mold growth that was just covered over. I would not recommend this place to anyone stay away.
Charming, historic hotel that must have been quite magnificent in its prime. While it could use some modernization, the beds are cozy and the rooms are tidy. The staff is welcoming and friendly. Parking can be a bit tricky—there's some parallel parking available at the front and standard parking on the side, but there’s also additional parking in a nearby structure that appears a bit uninviting.

Positive: The location was good for our needs and the room was clean. Negative: THe hotel is very dated and does not give the appearance of cleanliness judging from the hallways, carpeting and elevator. It seems to be in dire need of being updated.
There is no hot water because the boiler is broken, and it will take a week to repair. This leaves guests without access to a hot shower.
